Mt. Everest |
|
| Elevation: 29,028 feet / 8848 meters | |
| Optimal months to Climb: April and May, with a summit in May or June | |
Number of Days to Climb: 60 to 70 |
|
| Risks and Conditions:Storms can happen anytime on Everest, but it is the extreme high winds that are more common and contribute to deaths. Unless you’re one of the top mountaineers in the world, you need oxygen in the death zone. Running out of oxygen and mountain sickness are the most common causes of death. If you get HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) or HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema), you need to drop elevation fast. To do this, you need energy and oxygen. Either your feet take you down, or you don’t go down. | |
| Summary: Although the expedition takes two months, it comes down to the final week, if you make it to the final week. You need to be at the top of your game to have a chance, and even then you need some luck. | |
Qualifications: High altitude mountain experience is required, tough mental fortitude, climbing skills, longevity training, extreme climbing gear, and glacier travel skills (South side). |
